Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been talking with unusual frankness about his health.

FILE - Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador speaks during a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris in her office at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House complex, Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, in Washington. President Lopez Obrador announced on Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, that he has come down with COVID-19 a second time, as coronavirus infections spike in Mexico and virus tests become scarce.

López Obrador said he had prepared a “political will” to be opened in case he dies to orient his followers, but said, “I don't think it will be needed.” López Obrador said the catheterization — in which a small, flexible tube is inserted into a blood vessel — found “the arteries are good, there was no blockage.”

Because López Obrador built his Morena party largely himself, and is overwhelmingly its central figure, there have been concerns he might try to keep running the country after his single allowed term ends in 2024.
