Early results from the Kenai Peninsula Borough special election show Peter Micciche in the lead.

unofficial results

posted on the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s elections page, Micciche’s 2,526 votes give him a 60% share of the lead, ahead of fellow candidates Linda Hutchings Farnsworth , David Carey , and Zachary Hamilton . An additional 807 write-in votes had yet to be resolved as of 10:19 p.m. on Tuesday night. The elected candidate will hold the title of Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor until the end of former mayor Charlie Pierce’s term which ends in October. All of the candidates who ran in this election said before Tuesday that they would be interested in running for mayor beyond that.

Should no clear winner emerge from Tuesday’s election, a runoff election will be held in March. The vote will be certified Feb. 21 if a candidate retains at least half the vote. If no candidate claims at least 50% of votes, a runoff election will occur on March 7.Copyright 2023 KTUU. All rights reserved.
