Michael Bloomberg, the 78-year-old multibillionaire, former three-term mayor of New York City and the majority owner of the eponymous Bloomberg L.P., is the latest entrant into the Democratic race for the presidency.
It must have been somewhat shocking to Bloomberg that instead of being greeted as a hero rescuing the party—as a candidate who is fiscally conservative and socially liberal—he was met with utter disdain and derision. Bloomberg contends that his stewardship of one of the largest cities in the country, starting a business from scratch after being pushed out of a top investment bank and building it into a financial data and media powerhouse makes him a viable candidate.
