Billionaire Michael Bloomberg is running a unique campaign. He has put forth a new platform to win over working-class voters

Michael Bloomberg, the 78-year-old multibillionaire, former three-term mayor of New York City and the majority owner of the eponymous Bloomberg L.P., is the latest entrant into the Democratic race for the presidency.

It must have been somewhat shocking to Bloomberg that instead of being greeted as a hero rescuing the party—as a candidate who is fiscally conservative and socially liberal—he was met with utter disdain and derision. The current climate of the Democratic party is much more leftist and “woke” than the septuagenarian Bloomberg, who comes across as an aloof elitist who’s completely out of touch with the average American.

Bloomberg contends that his stewardship of one of the largest cities in the country, starting a business from scratch after being pushed out of a top investment bank and building it into a financial data and media powerhouse makes him a viable candidate. Bloomberg asserts that when it comes to wealth , business acumen, brains, temperament and accomplishments, he can take on and beat President Trump in the elections.

Given his longevity in politics and business, Bloomberg offers a rich history for his detractors. While serving as the mayor of New York City for 12 years , he implemented a . This was a practice to place a heavy police presence in minority areas and rigorously stop people—particularly young black men—to determine if they were involved with illegal activities. This law was later struck down by a federal judge for violating the constitutional rights of minorities.
