We chat with ImAVirgo producer Michael Ellenberg about the PrimeVideo series, his eagerness to partner with creator Boots Riley, and the practical reality of producing his fantastical vision:
From the absurd and fantastical mind behind Sorry to Bother You comes another fascinating tale with I'm a Virgo. The Prime Video series centers on 19-year-old Cootie, a 13-foot-tall Black man in Oakland who breaks away from his sheltered home life. He begins exploring the world thanks to a group of local teenage political activists, but he also learns of its darker side.
Ahead of the show's premiere, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with producer Michael Ellenberg to discuss I'm a Virgo, his eagerness to partner with Riley, finding the right way to capture his vision, and more. It's personal to his own experience coming of age, but from the jump, he had these huge ideas about politics, society, justice, what does it mean to be not just Black in America, but specifically actually what it meant to be a young Black man, and how you're viewed as you enter the scene.
