Hamas and the Palestinian Authority welcomed the plans for recognition. UNRWA, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, said it paused food aid work in Rafah.
Al-Awda hospital in the Jabalya refugee camp in northern Gaza was forcibly evacuated on Wednesday, the Gaza health ministry said. The hospital had been under siege since Saturday. Only 14 patients remained on Wednesday after Israel Defense Forces troops evacuated the hospital, said Medhat Abbas, head of Gaza’s health ministry. Eight of the patients’ companions and 12 staff were also present.
He added that Israeli forces bulldozed the hospital’s southern wall and fired artillery at the fifth floor of one of the hospital’s buildings on Monday. Two doctors at the hospital, Bakr Abu Safeya and Mohamed Salha, told The Post earlier that artillery fired at the top floor had destroyed water tanks. Al-Helou said there was no drinking water available at the hospital and that people had to drink untreated water from the hospital’s well.
