.USNorthernCmd and SecDef agreed Friday to end the search for two of the three unknown aerial objects shot down by the US military after investigators discovered no debris. US officials believe the objects were most likely not foreign entities.

U.S. Northern Command said on Friday that it recommended concluding the recovery operations that day near Deadhorse, Alaska, and on Lake Huron, as investigators discovered no debris from airborne objects shot down on Feb. 10 and Feb. 12.Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin “concurred” with the recommendation to end the searches.

U.S. officials are unsure of what exactly these two and a third object that the military shot down on Feb. 11 are, and without recovering them, many unknowns could remain indefinitely. Still, officials have said these aerial objects were most likely not foreign entities. A day earlier, the military ended its recovery effort for the downed Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina. In late January, the balloon entered U.S. airspace over Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, then traveled over Canada, where it then reentered U.S. airspace before traveling across the country. An F-22 shot it down on Feb. 4.
