The 22-year-old left-hander allowed eight runs in four innings, putting Triple-A El Paso behind the eight ball early in a 13-5 loss at Oklahoma City.Through eight starts, Weathers has walked nearly as many as he’s struck out in 33 innings and allowed eight homers, issues that plagued him during the second half of the 2021 season in the majors with the Majors.

On Tuesday, Weathers had thrown two scoreless innings before coughing up five runs in the third inning on homers to Dodgers’ prospects Miguel Vargas and Michael Busch and a two-run double to Stefen Romero.Kevin Pillar added a two-run double in the fourth inning after Weathers hit a batter and Weathers allowed a leadoff single in the fifth before he was pulled.

The 21-year-old outfielder has eight home runs at high Single-A Fort Wayne, one off the system lead, but he’s striking out in 44.1 percent of his plate appearances and hitting .185 on the season. Mears has a trio of two-homer games, the last on April 23. Since then, he is hitting .102/.239/.170 with 35 strikeouts in 18 games.
