Bill Patton has instructed at high school and USA Tennis
High girls’ tennis coach, who is anything but new to the sport. “I’ve discovered it’s gratifying to help kids move forward.It felt like the right move, so in March he moved his family and business, The Patton School of Tennis, to San Diego, where he had visited but never lived.
“I checked out the courts and they’re in good shape,” said Patton, who turns 60 this year. “I looked at the roster and there are 10 to 15 who want to play and 20 who signed up. The goal will be to have 40 players, 15 for the varsity and the rest for junior varsity. But he also is aware that quality competitors like Santana’s Rohan Murali, ranked among the top players in the country, can discover the uniqueness of playing in high school as he did this spring en route to winning the San Diego Section singles championship.
“The players who come out already feel enough pressure with school and getting good grades, so we want to alleviate pressure, not add to it.
