On March 12-13, join the Moore Lion XC/Track teams in running 10MOOREMinutes in honor of the runners recently hit by a car.
On March 13, the Moore High School track team in Moore, Oklahoma, will hold its first meet since. To honor the victims and their families, the team and the school are calling on the running community to join through virtual runs across the world.
Twelve students were about to finish track practice with a 10-minute cool-down run around the neighborhood when a driver reportedly hopped the curb and struck six of them. Three students, senior Rachel Freeman, sophomore Yuridia Martinez, and senior Kolby Crum, were killed. Three other students—senior Joseph White, junior Shiloh Hutchinson, and sophomore Ashton Baza—were injured.
“It’s been a difficult journey that we’ve been on, and we’ll have to take this journey for a while,” head track coach at Moore Stefan Seifried told. “These students are going to be dearly missed, and we are going to run for them. The seasons ahead will be dedicated to them and we want to do all we can to honor their memories.”
Members of local, national, and international running communities reached out in the wake of the incident, and the school and the families of the victims received letters and donations from all over the world. (You can find the page for the Martinez family
