44% of registered voters say they're willing to consider supporting a third-party or independent presidential candidate if President Biden and former President Trump are the two major party nominees in 2024.

Republican pollster Bill McInturff — whose firm, Public Opinion Strategies, conducts the NBC News poll along with a Democratic firm, Hart Research Associates — said that left-leaning voters' greater interest in the idea of a third-party candidate underscores why there has been such strong Democratic concern about No Labels this year.

Majorities of a handful of Democratic-leaning groups appear more open to another option if Biden and Trump win their nominations. Even among Republicans who say they primarily support the Republican Party over Trump, 47% would consider a third-party or independent candidate while 50% said they would not.

When asked a similar question in January 2008 , only 38% said they would consider another option while 56% said they would not.
