A bill expanding the medical marijuana program in Texas needs one more vote before heading to the Senate.

The cannabis industry has lost a lot of its original stigma in the past few years, said Matt Hawkins, who was an early investor in the industry back in 2014. The Texas House advanced a bill that expands the state's medical marijuana program.state’s medical marijuana programThe proposal by Fort Worth GOP Rep. Stephanie Klick adds more medical conditions that fall under the state’s Compassionate Use Program to include patients who suffer from chronic pain.

“We do have clinical standards for indications for chronic pain and the use of cannabis products,” Klick said from the House floor. The House tentatively approved the bill on a 121-23 vote. The bill needs one more vote before it can head to the Senate.
