The two teams with best winning percentage will play for Mountain West championship beginning next year
The Mountain West announced Friday that it will eliminate its Mountain and West divisions in football and play as one 12-team division, beginning with the 2023 season.
Implementing the change was delayed a year, the conference said, because the 2022 schedule already is set. Earlier this week, the Pac-12 announced it would immediately go to a one-division format. The impetus for going to one division is to ensure the conference’s two teams with the best records meet for the conference championship. That has not been the case on two occasions over the past decade.
