In May, the MTA announced proposed rate hikes for both single rides and monthly passes. On Wednesday, the following were approved:A seven-day ticket was increased $1 to $34.A seven-day Express bus ticket was raised to $64.

At the MTA officials' last scheduled meeting of the summer, the idea of fare hikes almost dominated the public comment portion right off the bat. "I do not want to pay for $2.90 as a working class single mother," another said."People are hardworking. A lot of people are trying their best already and it's just adding onto that," Manhattan resident Derrick LeBlanc said, adding, a few more cents make"a big difference to a lot of people.
