An area of Highway 9 near the Santa Cruz Mountains remains closed due to a mudslide caused by the fierce winter storms, officials said.

The extended closure comes as a result of an intense mudslide that occurred Wednesday, Bertola said, after yet anotherswept through the Bay Area earlier this week. Caltrans said in a news release issued Wednesday that the force of the mudslide propelled concrete barriers from the shoulder of the road to the center of Highway 9.
