One man was flown to an area hospital and listed in critical condition, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
The wreck happened around 7:15 a.m. near Whitesville Road and Route 571 in Manchester, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
A Honda Civic was headed westbound on Route 571 when the driver failed to stay in her lane while negotiating a right-hand curve, according to Billhimer. The Honda crashed into a New Jersey Department of Transportation Ford F-550 pickup truck, which was headed eastbound on the roadway. That caused the DOT truck to lose control and hit a 2012 Toyota Camry, driven by Michael Sadis, 48, the prosecutor said in a statement. The Toyota went off the road and into an embankment. The pickup continued in the same direction and hit a 2015 Toyota Corolla.
Sadis died at the scene of the crash, authorities said. The driver of the Toyota Corolla, a 58-year-old Toms River man, was flown to a local hospital and listed in critical condition. The driver of the DOT truck, a 30-year-old Hamilton man, and his passenger, a 26-year-old man from Upper Freehold, along with the driver of the Honda, a 30-year-old Toms River woman, all suffered minor injuries, according to the prosecutor.
