Multiple gunshots were heard in the area the man was running from, officials said.
The incident began unfolding around 3:20 a.m. on June 11 when Paterson Police Officer Jerry Moravek was dispatched to Garrison Street for a noise complaint about a large group of people in that area, according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office.
Moravek went to the area where Capron was arrested and heard multiple gunshots coming from Marion Street, which is less than a block away, investigators said. He ran toward the street while calling out “shots fired” on his police radio when he passed another man running in the opposite direction. A black 9mm handgun was recovered on the ground between two parked cars on Garrison Street, the office said.
