The doctor admitted to recruiting the two Indian nationals to do work for her and her family.

A doctor admitted harboring two Indian nationals to work at her and her family’s New Jersey homes and failing to pay taxes on their wages, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said.

Harsha Sahni, 66, of Tinton Falls, pleaded guilty in Trenton federal court to conspiracy to conceal and harbor aliens and filing a false tax return, prosecutors said. The doctor conspired with others to recruit the two Indian nationals to do work for her and her family between 2013 and 2021, officials said. Sahni paid their families in India in exchange for their labor, authorities said.

She also used fake names and addresses for the workers and instructed them to tell others they were related to her, officials said. The physician also made the victims believe they would be arrested or deported if they reported the criminal activity to law enforcement, authorities said.Under a plea agreement, the defendant has agreed to pay the victims a combined $642,212 in addition to paying $200,000 towards the treatment of a brain aneurysm for one of them, court documents said.

Her attorneys, Mary Toscano and Richard Sapinski of Sills Cummis & Gross P.C., did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Our journalism needs your support. Please subscribe today to
