There were no immediate arrests as police investigated the killing of James Westbrook-Daye, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
A 25-year-old Newark man was shot and killed Thursday night in the state’s largest city, authorities said.
James Westbrook-Daye was found by police suffering from gunshot wounds on the porch of a building on the 200 block of Lehigh Avenue, according to acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara. Westbrook-Daye was rushed to University Hospital, where he died shortly after 7 p.m., authorities said in a joint statement.
There were no arrests, according to the statement. Authorities did not comment on a possible motive for the shooting.Newark authorities have reported 10 homicides as of March 27 compared to eight killings in the same period last year,
