Alan Maloney lost his appeal to have his lawsuit against the NJSIAA reinstated.

or forfeit the match has lost a bid to reinstate a lawsuit against the Buena Regional School District and the New Jersey State Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Maloney took issue with the dreadlocks worn by a Black wrestler for Buena and initially ordered him to wear a hair net under headgear. The wrestler, later identified as Andrew Johnson, initially complied. But when Maloney said the new head covering didn’t comply with regulations, Johnson had the team trainer cut off his dreadlocks on the spot rather than forfeit the match.

But an Atlantic County civil court rejected that argument, and declined to allow Maloney to amend his complaint. Maloney appealed, but earlier this month, the appellate ruled against him as well.
