Norwood Police Officer Julie White, 43, states in court papers she heard Police Chief Jeffrey L. Krapels say he “wanted young people as supervisors” shortly before he promoted two young men to higher paying positions.
Norwood Police Officer Julie White has filed a lawsuit against the borough, claiming they refuse to promote her.A veteran police officer filed a discrimination lawsuit Wednesday against the Bergen County borough where she works, claiming she’s been passed over for promotion to sergeant based on her gender and age.
“When that discriminatory remark was made by the chief, the plaintiff immediately realized that no matter what her qualifications showed, and no matter how hard she worked and/or how good her work product was, she was going to be unlawfully bypassed for that promotion,” states the suit. The lawsuit states White – who has been a police officer for 20 years – was passed over for a sergeant position in February by two “significantly less qualified individuals.” White is one of 16 officers in the department and the only woman, according to the suit and public records.
