Vied was diagnosed with epilepsy years ago, but recently started having seizures despite being on anti-seizure medications, according to the hospital. Doctors later discovered a tumor in Vied’s brain from an MRI. Patel said the tumor was in a high-risk location because it was within the part of her brain that controls her speech. He used the Quicktome brain mapping technology before the surgery to devise a plan to avoid those areas of Vied’s brain.
The doctors removed most of the tumor during the surgery. The rest will be combated with radiation and other therapies, according to a statement from the hospital.
