And Modi evidently knows just how to greet the U.S. president when he drops in for a visit — with throngs of adoring fans. It was the second time the pair have basked in a campaign-like atmosphere together, after a similar scene played out during Modi's U.S. visit last year.

"Nearly one in four Indian Americans trace their roots right here in Gujarat," Trump said as the crowd cheered.
