Metro Council passed a resolution honoring the Covenant School shooting victims and first responders, about a week before the one-year anniversary.

The Covenant School shooting victims are Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney, all age 9; Cynthia Peak, age 61; Katherine Koonce, age 60 and Mike Hill, age 61. honoring the Covenant School shooting victims and first responders on Tuesday, about a week before the one-year anniversary of the tragedy.

Katherine Koonce was the Head of School, Hill was a custodian and Peak was a substitute teacher the day of the shooting. The resolution honors those victims as well as praising the efforts of first responders and the Nashville community. Sponsor of the resolution Councilwoman Sandy Ewing spoke Tuesday night, asking for prayers for the community. She also asked for stricter gun control laws to prevent something like this from happening again.

"I know you will all join me in wishing them peace and comfort as they grieve and remember their loved ones and the MNPD officers who responded and acted quickly," Ewing said. "But at the same time - do not become numb to what's in front of us. Don't let this be our new normal.
