Houston weather: Severe thunderstorms expected Tuesday and Wednesday
The National Weather Service is predicting severe thunderstorms in northern parts of Southeast Texas Tuesday night and possibly Wednesday.have forecast the threat of severe thunderstorms — complete with large hail, damaging winds, heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash flooding — for some northern parts of Southeast Texas Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
A few storms are expected to pass through beginning Tuesday afternoon, beginning around 4 p.m. and lasting until approximately 11 p.m., accordingShould the storm become severe, it could potentially bring with it large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain, forecasters said. Residents should also be aware of the threat of urban flash flooding, meteorologists said.
"Heavy rainfall is forecast for portions of Southeast Texas, including highly urbanized areas like the Houston metropolitan area," weather service officials said in a statement. The rain could fall so rapidly it could create a flash flood danger."Cars may flood in low-lying areas. Ponding on roadways may increase risk of hydroplaning," according to a weather service statement."Rain may move repeatedly across the same area, causing a rapid rise on creeks and bayous.
Drivers should never attempt to cross a flooded intersection or travel along a flooded road, experts have said. It can be nearly impossible to gauge the depth of flood water and fast-moving flood waters often create a current capable of overpowering a vehicle.
