Cinnamon feared to be contaminated with lead has now been classified as a 'Class II' health hazard.
A nationwide recall of several ground cinnamon products—issued months ago following the discovery of elevated concentrations of lead in the spice—remains ongoing, with the FDA now updating the warning.Several brands, produced by various manufacturers, were caught up in the recall published by the Food and Drug Administration in March.
'Any impacted customers were urged to return the products to the place of purchase for a refund, and the FDA said the company, based out of North Bergen, New Jersey, had not violated any federal guidelines or laws relating to product testing. There have been no reports of any customers suffering from ill-effects after consuming the spice.Following the Colonna Brothers cinnamon recall in March, several other companies also issued their own voluntary recalls.
