NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that supporting Ukraine is not only the 'morally right thing to do,' but is also a 'security interest.'
"Some worry that our support to Ukraine risks triggering escalation. Let me be clear. There are no risk-free options. But, the biggest risk of all is if Putin wins," Stoltenberg said at the Munich Security Conference session"Beyond the Alliance: Partnering up for European Security."
Stoltenberg explained that a Putin victory would enable other"authoritarian" leaders to use force to achieve their goals, and therefore making the world"more dangerous" and"So supporting Ukraine is not only the morally right thing to do. It is also in our own security interest," he added. NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg is seen on January 11, 2022, in Brussels. Stoltenberg said on Saturday that there are no risk-free options when it comes to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, warning that the biggest risk would be if Russian President Vladimir Putin wins.The NATO chief also urged strengthening deterrence and defense because"wars are unpredictable," and said that it remains unknown whether the war in Ukraine has an end in sight.
"But I do know this. Even if the war ends tomorrow, our security environment has changed for the long-term. There is no going back. Kremlin wants a different Europe. One where Russia controls neighbors," Stoltenberg said.
