NATO's chief says the alliance's member countries have failed to deliver in good time what they promised to Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg talks during his joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, Ukraine, Monday, April 29, 2024.
Zelenskyy said new Western supplies have started arriving, but slowly."This process must be speeded up,” he said. Russia is a far bigger country than Ukraine, with greater resources to draw on. It has also received weapon support from Iran and North Korea, the U.S. government says. Stoltenberg said more weapons and ammunition for Ukraine are on the way, including Patriot missile systems to defend against the heavy Russian barrages that smash into the power grid and urban areas.

Ukraine's Chances of Joining NATO Hindered by Territorial Disputes and War with RussiaUkraine's chances of realistically joining NATO anytime soon have been marred by its territorial disputes and war with Russia. Blinken's comment about Ukraine eventually joining NATO drew criticism and dialogue. Some sources believe that Ukrainian membership is currently a nonstarter due to the conflict with Russia. The outlook for Ukraine on the battlefield is grim, and it is unlikely to happen at the upcoming NATO summit. Critics argue that Blinken's remarks are reckless and create obstacles to negotiating peace. They also claim that U.S. and EU officials are aware that membership is not possible. Blinken's rhetoric is seen as purely for domestic consumption and gives false hope to Ukraine and Georgia.
