MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Baylor guard Ja’Kobe Walter said he was thrilled to see the Bears’ hard work coming to “fruition” before turning to his teammate and coach for affirmation in an NCAA Tournament postgame interview room. “That’s the word, right?” Walter wondered with a smile. The inquisitive freshman was right — the fruition was plentiful for the third-seeded Bears following their 92-67 victory over 14th-seeded Colgate in the opening round of the tournament in FedExForum on Friday.
But that is what you can control, and you can control the effort on the glass. “We had great looks and everyone was really unselfish, and 17 assists is really good. … It’s nice to finally play somebody that doesn’t know every tendency, every set, everything you do — it’s good to play somebody different.” Baylor rebounded nicely from a 14-point loss against a quite familiar opponent, Iowa State, in the Big 12 tournament semifinals in Kansas City, Mo., on March 15.
