DANVILLE — There was 2:56 remaining in the first quarter and San Ramon Valley looked as if it was attempting to start a cold motor within itself following an 11-day layoff.
San Ramon Valley hadn’t played since beating Monte Vista in the final East Bay Athletic League game on Feb. 11. Neither team was at their best until San Ramon Valley got going in the second half. In some ways they were facing mirror images of each other. Cardinal Newman was unbeaten and rarely challenged in its Bay Valley League games, while the Wolves ran roughshod through the EBAL with only crosstown rival Monte Vista offering a serious challenge.That time came after Pena scored inside for a 30-24 Cardinal Newman lead with 3:43 left in the third quarter.
