The City Manager's Office is closely involved with negotiations for a new police contract. In March, the city and the Austin Police Association announced a return to the negotiating table for a long-term contract after operating for more than a year without one.“Austin is facing many challenges right now and public safety is hurting," Michael Bullock, APA President, said to CBS Austin in a statement.
Similarly, Broadnax named emergency preparedness, affordable housing, and addressing homelessness as other top priorities to address in his tenure as city manager. Under the contract agreement with the city, Broadnax will earn a salary of $470,000 a year, as well as other earnings such as a $1,600 cell phone allowance, and $5,000 a month for six months for temporary housing.
