Ohio State's new offensive coordinator dropped an Alexander Haig reference just before a note about the "annexation of Puerto Rico." Then, for good measure, Kelly cited the Socratic method of asking questions. Throughout his 35-minute turn at the podium following OSU's first spring practice, the former UCLA coach riffed on a handful of topics, including but not limited to football:"I think tempo is part of an offense, but I don't think it's an offense in itself. It's more of like if you go to dinner, it's a side order. It's not the main course. It's always good to have it.
"Pressure is what you feel when you don't know what you're doing. If you don't want to feel pressure, then you should know what you're doing. It's about your preparation, it's about you.""Education is the transportation of knowledge. It really doesn't matter what the coach knows. It matters what the players understand ... It's what they know that's ultimately gonna win games. It's not what we know.
"I know a lot of guys on this staff besides Ryan also. I know what their mindset is and what their values are and how they do things, and so I wanted to be a part of that.""I thought about it a lot during COVID. I've always believed you can see the game better from above, but i believe you can feel the game better from the field. So if there's any way where you can get a zip wire ... Whatever Ryan feels is the best for the team is what we'll do.
