Former owner Jake Gandolfo sold the business and property in Sisterdale, just north of Boerne, which was lauded as the second-best barbecue destination in the 2018"52 Weeks of Barbecue" series serving the best brisket. Gandolfo moved to Idaho after the sale, but said that everything he did, from the recipes to the furniture, remained on the property.
"It was time for a new adventure," Gandolfo said."I'm proud of what we did there and the place is in good hands." Along with a silent partner, Black Board is now being run by chef and pitmaster Joe Rodriguez along with his wife Melissa Garza, who is the acting general manager and runs the front of the house.Certified Angus Beef brisket is smoked over live oak at Black Board Bar B Q in Sisterdale northwest of Boerne.As of now, Garza said the menu will continue to be familiar with the standard assortment of sausage, brisket, pork ribs and a wide variety of creative sides.
"Joe is very forward thinking with an incredible work ethic and his goal is to be ahead of the curve with the menu," Garza said."We are still very much a barbecue restaurant though, and we have a lot of ideas for the future."The front gate and minimalist signage at Black Board Bar B Q on Sisterdale Road outside Boerne.
