But New Jersey’s largest school district had already lagged behind the state in its percentage of students reading at grade level before the coronavirus forced students out of schools and into remote learning. Officials said the shift to remote learning made the situation particularly challenging for a majority-minority school district like Newark due to thein reading among New Jersey’s 600-plus school districts.
“Clearly, it is all our responsibility to make sure that all our kids are reading at grade level,” Baraka said. 8.
