A federal judge will begin hearing arguments Tuesday to determine how much money it will take to reverse the effects of the opioid crisis that devastated Lake and Trumbull counties.

Attorneys for Trumbull and Lake counties will return to the U.S. District Courthouse in Cleveland on Tuesday to argue how much three pharmacy chains contributed to the opioid epidemic.CLEVELAND, Ohio — that CVS, Walgreens and Walmart contributed to the opioid epidemic. The decision requires attorneys to return to U.S. District Judge Dan Polster’s courtroom to begin the process of deciding what it will take to fund programs to help the counties and its residents heal.

The second phase of the trial will feature testimony from doctors and public officials who will aim to show just how widespread and deep the effect of opioid crisis hit the two counties, according to recent court filings.

The pharmacies, however, will argue they shouldn’t have to pay for all ills brought on by the epidemic. The pharmacies will also argue that the counties overestimated the costs of the programs they need to fund. Experts for the pharmacies plan to testify that the cost should be somewhere between $35 million and $346 million, far below the $1 billion each that the counties seek.
