As Friday’s NHL trade deadline approaches, the Dallas Stars are in an interesting spot. They sit second in the Western Conference, their best consistent...
Since Dallas has not used its long-term injured reserve option, any contract they take on will be prorated for the remaining days of the season .This decision likely comes down to a few points. Can Dallas get a defenseman with some term left on his contract? If so, that should be the priority. Do they feel the smooth-skating prospect Thomas Harley can fill this void as soon as this season? Nill says he is knocking on the door. That would make this decision much simpler.
A secondary, less sought-after option, is Arizona’s Shayne Gostisbehere. With a $4.5 million salary through 2023, Gostisbehere is having a slow season in the desert but proved his offensive abilities with 14 goals and 37 points last season. The Stars’ top line is lethal, one of the best in the league. Jamie Benn and Wyatt Johnston have found chemistry on the third line. But, the second trio has been far too inconsistent.
Domi makes the most sense. The 27-year-old speedy, playmaking winger is sitting on 18 goals and 49 points playing with Patrick Kane in Chicago. His $3 million cap hit is very reasonable, and he seems the perfect fit next to Seguin.
