Widespread human rights violations that amount to crimes against humanity are being committed against civilians by Nicaragua's government for political reasons, UN experts allege in new report

Ortega, now aged 77, first came to power as a leader of the left-wing Sandinista guerrilla movement that toppled the Somoza dictatorship in a 1970s revolution.
Asked about the scale of the abuses, the experts said they had documented over 100 cases of executions, hundreds of cases of torture and arbitrary detention, and thousands of cases of political persecution."We are very concerned with the present situation," he said.
