“We are just trying to adjust to this new life where everything is exciting, and trying to catch up on so many things,” his wife, María Elena, said Thursday. “But it’s bittersweet. feel very happy to see that my husband is back. But they are still sad because they are in a situation that I have already been in, and I know that it is a nightmare.”
Citgo is controlled by a board appointed by the Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó, whom the U.S. and about 60 other countries have recognized as the legitimate leader of Venezuela. “I got out of jail and got my freedom after about 1,570 days of wrongful captivity,” he said in a statement to the Associated Press. “It was a very hard time marked by deep pain, but also by faith, hope, love and survival.
