As Newsom waxed on about California and Tesla, Musk butted in: “In fact, you were one of the first people to buy a Tesla Roadster back in the day.”
Newsom grinned and bounced closer to the billionaire. “I appreciate you saying that,” he said. “By the way, that was a healthy deposit you had to make.” Musk answered that Newsom had paid $100,000.“That was a lot of money in 2007,” Musk replied.California’s electric car rebates and sales tax exemptions have provided fertile ground for Tesla’s astronomic growth into one of the world’s most valuable companies .
