North Carolina's Republican-dominated state Legislature voted Tuesday to uphold a bill banning most abortions at 12 weeks.
lawmakers Tuesday overrode Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's veto of a bill in an effort to ban most abortions after 12 weeks.
"North Carolinians now understand that Republicans are unified in their assault on women's reproductive freedom and we are energized to fight back on this and other critical issues facing our state," Cooper said in a statement.

Two bitter rivals for the GOP nomination have dominated the conversation, but only one of the 12 contenders for the party's nod will emerge to take on Beshear.
