... [+]: North Korea fired what is believed to be two short-range ballistic missiles on Monday, marking its first weapons test in months as it seeks to force Washington back to the negotiating table over nuclear-related sanctions.

The projectiles were fired from the town of Wonsan on North Korea’s east coast, and flew 150 miles towards the Sea of Japan, which is also known as the East Sea. According to South Korea’s military, the projectiles are thought to be short-range ballistic missiles. The test comes just over a week after the U.S. and South Korea called off their annual military drills as soldiers in both forces contracted Covid-19. The drills have historically angered the North, with leader Kim Jong Un previously calling them preparation for invasion.for all sides involved in Korea’s denuclearisation programme to get back round the table.

The latest missile test comes after Kim Jong Un said at the start of the year that he was abandoning a pause on nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missiles tests, and threatened to introduce a"new strategic weapon". , when Kim Jong Un fired what he called “super large multiple rocket launchers”.
