Friday may yet again bring highs into the 60s, but don't let that fool you: it’s gonna be a cruddy day, weather-wise.
The volume of New Yorkers searching for an answer to"when is the start of spring" this past week reminds us of how lucky we've been with this"winter" weather. The answer, to that question, is of course"not yet" -- and you'll feel why.
Friday started out damp, though warm, and showers are expected to continue across the tri-state area through at least early afternoon before a front crosses and begins to dry us out. That front, sadly, ends the warm-up we've enjoyed. And the change will happen quickly. Midday Friday temperatures will be near 60 degrees but drop closer to 40 degrees by 7 p.m. Winds pick up and gusts of 30 to 40 mph are possible before wind chills crash down into the 20s late Friday. By early Saturday, we're looking at wind chills in the teens.
The day stays bright and breezy -- and the rest of the holiday weekend warms up a bit even as skies turn grayer. We can't have it all, right? We return to 50-degree weather on Sunday. Those temps stick around for President's Day and through much of next week. We've got a chance for showers Thursday, followed by cooler temperatures to close out the month of February. The latest weather expectations come after some local spots shattered record highs Thursday. Islip reached 71 degrees in the afternoon, which is far above the previous high of 59 degrees, set back in 2018.
