Oakland Athletics place right-hander Dany Jiménez on the 60-day injured list with strained right shoulder

OAKLAND — Oakland A’s right-hander Dany Jiménez will miss the rest of the season after he was placed on the 60-day injured list with a strained right shoulder.

Jiménez, 26, assumed closer duties in April when he had four saves in the A’s first 19 games. But he began to experience right shoulder issues near the midway point of the season and was out of action from June 19 to August 1. It was not immediately clear who the A’s might turn to in the short term to be their new closer. A.J. Puk and Zach Jackson both have three saves this season and Pruitt has one.

Martinez is 2-3 in five starts for the A’s this season with a 6.08 ERA in 23⅔ innings. He most recently pitched for Las Vegas on Aug. 19, allowing four earned runs in three innings against Sacramento.
