Ballot measure's revenue exceeds 2017 predictions, which means more money for roads, parks and public safety
Additional money for a new city park, expanded after-school programs and homelessness prevention efforts is coming this year from Measure X, the half-cent sales tax that Oceanside voters approved Nov. 6, 2018.
A revised spending plan approved unanimously by the Oceanside City Council includes additional money in five categories: $1 million for a new community park with sports fields, restrooms and other facilities at El Corazon; $200,000 for traffic calming projects at schools and parks; $200,000 for expanded gang diversion programs; $120,000 for additional homeless services staffing; and $5,000 to pay Fire Department paramedics to serve as mentors for interns working on paramedic certification.
“This gets us really close to totally funding that park site, a very exciting project for the city,” Gossman said.“It remains one of our top priority projects,” Borrego said. “We are doing everything we can to get moving on it as quickly as possible.” “This type of programming not only keeps kids engaged in healthy activities, it expands options for kids that are beyond just sports,” he said.
About $13.2 million of the infrastructure funding is being used for a single project, the replacement of the downtown Fire Station No. 1.
