A Princeton Police officer was injured Saturday by a malfunctioning light post in Palmer Square.A Princeton Police officer was shocked Saturday by an electrical current from a malfunctioning light post.

The incident landed the officer, who was not named, in the hospital, according to a release issued by Princeton Police Captain Christopher Tash., a shopping and dining area in downtown Princeton, at 2:03 p.m. Saturday when a caller reported there was something sharp on the sidewalk, authorities said. The officer arrived and was looking for the hazard when he was shocked by an unknown electrical current.

The officer was transported to the Center for Emergency Care at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center where he was treated and released, Tash said. An investigation revealed that the electric current stemmed from a malfunctioning light pole, officials said.
