COLUMBUS, Ohio – A legislative crackdown that Gov. Mike DeWine has been calling for on drivers who text behind the wheel is again moving through Ohio’s General Assembly after stalling for well over a year.
The legislation, which passed Tuesday through the House Criminal Justice Committee on a unanimous and bipartisan basis, could pass the full chamber as soon as Wednesday, although its timeline is uncertain. The bill must pass both chambers of the General Assembly before the end of the year, or the legislative process will start over in a new session next year.
