Larry Smith, 31, of Columbus, is sentenced to 13 years in prison for possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl and for possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was sentenced Wednesday to 13 years in prison on drug and weapons charges after fentanyl was found hidden in his residences, including in a dog’s collar.
Larry Smith, 31, of Columbus, already was on supervised release from a previous drug conviction when he was found with about 300 grams of fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio. Smith pleaded guilty in October to possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl and for possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Prosecutors say Smith, also known as “Lil Larry” and “Big Larry,” owns Larry’s Cleaning LLC and applied for CARES Act assistance for his business. During that time, Smith was seen on social media with high-end vehicles, jewelry, bags and stacks of money all while having no verified income, authorities say.
Investigators watching Smith’s residence saw an increased amount of foot and vehicle traffic at the home in Columbus. Investigators also learned Smith had a second residence in Lewis Center, Ohio. Law-enforcement officials searched both homes and found about fentanyl throughout the homes, including in Smith’s dog’s collar and in a Gucci bag hidden under the stairs. Smith had more than $50,000 in cash, including in a Louis Vuitton backpack, as well as a loaded firearm, marijuana and crack cocaine, prosecutors say.More crime-related content on
