Ohio State’s Oct. 21 matchup with Penn State will be its “Scarlet the Shoe” game for 2023.

announced Wednesday

that its marquee home game this season against the Nittany Lions will be its scarlet-out game for the 2023 season, marking the second time in a row that Ohio State has promoted a scarlet-out for a home game against Penn State. The Buckeyes wore all-scarlet uniforms as part of the scarlet-out for their 2021 game at Ohio Stadium against the Nittany Lions, which they won 33-24. It’s unclear whether the “Color Rush” uniforms will be brought back this year, however, as Ohio State opted to wear its traditional uniforms for its “Scarlet the Shoe” game against Iowa last season.

Scarlet the Shoe was one of six game themes announced by Ohio State on Wednesday for each of its 2023 games. Ohio State’s Oct. 7 home game against Maryland will serve as its Homecoming game as well as Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame induction game, while its night game against Michigan State on Nov. 11 will be its military appreciation game. As is customary, Ohio State will hold Senior Day before its final home game of the season on Nov. 18.
