The Ohio Union is a place to unite. There’s a sense of community. It’s the perfect location for the“There’s a closeness of just being together with somebody who understands what you have been through,” said Maj. GenThe Ohio Department of Veteran Services welcomes all branches, from all over the state, bringing former service members with a chance to connect in changing times.
The conference will gather organizations and groups to help Ohio veterans connect with key services, taxation benefits, companies who want to hire and even resume help. Experts will be available to help on topics like resilience and financial wellness.“The events of 911 impacted me, and I felt my call to service,” said Army veteran Eric Sowers, who was recently named a Tillman scholar.“Separating from service, it can be a tall mountain to climb,” Sowers said.
“For me and the last few years with the pandemic and whatnot - the forced isolation - I think a lot of us took those connections for granted,” Sowers said. “Some of us left the service, and we feel as though we lost that identity - that part of us that ‘warrior identity,’ and this is an opportunity to tap back into that,” Sowers said.
