A look back at San Antonio's old scenic road on top of Olmos Dam
just two miles away, memories of the old Olmos Dam roadway still have a way of raising spirits.
The 24-foot wide driveway on top of the dam officially opened Dec. 11, 1926. Hundreds of citizens from both sides of the connecting causeway attended the opening, as cavalcades of automobiles for both then-San Antonio mayor John Tobin and Alamo Heights mayor pro tem W.H. Hume stretched for several blocks. The two leaders met halfway for a ceremonial handshake, according to the next morning's San Antonio Express.
