Elvis Presley made the down payment for Graceland on this day in history, March 19, 1957. The home is preserved just as 'The King' left it — Eivis died in the master bathroom of the property.
The first on that list is the White House, said History.com.
While the house may be preserved just as Elvis left it, Graceland itself has undergone quite a transformation since it was first built in 1939. Initially, Graceland was part of a 500-acre farm owned by the S.E. Toof family, says the Graceland website. "Graceland" is derived from the name of one of the members of the S.E. Toof family, Grace.
Graceland history says that"in 1939, Grace's niece, Ruth Brown Moore and her husband, Dr. Thomas Moore, built the mansion, which became well-known to the locals of Memphis."
